Happy anniversary to Félicette the cat! She was a stray from France, and the first cat to ever go to space on Oct. 18, 1963!! She was strapped into a Véronique rocket and blasted to Algeria from almost 100 miles above Earth. The suborbital flight lasted 13 minutes, 5 of them were of pure weightlessness. She landed safely. But sadly, 2 months after the flight scientists euthanized her to study the effects of spaceflight :( And even worse, she was forgotten after that. It was so bad that French people in the 90s got her name wrong (Felix) when celebrating her story. Poor Félicette...
But thankfully, now she's more recognized :) Félicette is the only cat in the world to have ever been to space and best kitty fr. I love you Félicette!!!!!
